Tillage in Maigueside

The Tillage Season is here with temperatures in double figures today and slackening winds ,it has given the Farmers an opportunity to get out on the land as my images from today show.

Agriculture is very important to Ireland and has been it’s backbone for generations a point that seems have gone missing with certain people, now that big R is with us it looks like people may appreciate more how valuable farming is to local communities and employment.

Allotments are becoming the in thing these days with people from towns and cities renting allotments from farmers  and growing their own produce .This is an amazing turnaround as this system was very popular up to the late seventies ,then  it seems to have died out and now it has resurrected itself again .This is a positive aspect to life in the community also.A couple in Murroe Co.Limerick have created great interest with their allotment.

Croom’s number one citizen Denis Brosnan was winner of the Agricultural Trust’s John Mooney award for an outstanding contribution to Irish agriculture.See the Farmer’s Journal for more .
