Croom on a winning streak…..

Limerick Macra had a huge turnout of young people at the Golden Vale, Kilmallock last Friday for the County final of the Lovely Ladies and Mr. Personality competitions. Over 30 females and males ventured into the private interview room to face the tough questioning of our judges, Freida O Rourke (a former Queen of the Land), Barra O Dwyner (proprietor of the Golden Vale Bar) and Clare Akres (from the Limerick Rose of Tralee Committee). Well done to everyone who participated. Roisin Cussen from Bruree will be the first to compete, representing Limerick Macra in the Rose of Tralee selection evening in May. Roisin is currently a student of Mary Immaculate, studying primary teaching and also a member of the Kilmallock Macra Club. Roisin will have much difficulty choosing her party piece for the Rose selection. She is a lady of many gifts, including playing traditional music and singing. Her escort for the Limerick Rose Selection will be Thomas Crow from the Ballylanders Club. Thomas is a charming farmer from Emily and has recently taken up set dancing. He is set to make a great impression with his tapping feet and good looks. Representing Limerick in ’09 at the Miss Macra event will be Sharon Power. She is a member of the Croom Macra club and resides in Clarina. She played a key role in the Limerick Capers Show this year. Sharon will no doubt do herself, family and her club proud at the Miss Macra festival. Sharon has tried out many new activities since joining Macra, including impromptu public speaking, which she competed in at a national level. Louise O Connor from Croom and a new member of the club there will compete in the Queen of the Land festival. Louise has made a positve impact on the Croom Club since joining only recently. She will compete this Sunday in the disco dancing competition. Louise has a strong interest in farming and a love for animals. Taking off to Athboy, Meath for the Miss Blue Jeams Festival will be Aoife McCoy from NewCastle West. Aoife is a founding member of the new Macra club formed in West Limerick. Winning this title is a high honour for the talented young lady and her club. Aoife will do very well at this festival. She has a lively, vivavious personality and of course looks fabulous in a pair of jeans. Shane Cahill, our own singing sensation in Croom was crowned  ‘Mr Personality’ for ’09. This young man is definitely not lacking in personality and charm. He already has many tropies under his belt since joining Macra in September ’08. He won Macra vision in October and is set to blow up a storm on Sunday night with his Croom mates as they perform their hilarious novelty act in the National Talent Competition.

Macra’s National Talent competition formerly Dublin City Talent is celebrating its 25th year this year. The National Talent Final is one of the showpiece occasions in the Macra.
