Croom,Limerick Macra News

Macra na Feirme is calling on all young farmers to Stand up and Be Counted at its Protest meeting next week. Macra is calling for the reinstatement of Installation Aid and the Early Retirement Scheme and have therefore organised a national protest meeting to deal with what Macra national president Catherine Buckley calls the ‘Ministers blunder and lack of foresight for the agricultural industry’. Ms Buckley says there is a need for stability and long term planning for the agricultural sector and especially for young farmers and those who wish to enter farming. It will be held on Thursday November 6th at 8pm, in the Tullamore Court Hotel, Tullamore Co. Offaly. Macra calls on all farmers affected by the suspension of both Installation aid and the Early retirement Scheme to record their case with Macra. The Minister must not be allowed to turn his back on qualified young farmers.

Congratulations to the Rally Committee who ensured the October Bank holiday weekend was a great success for all Macra members who visited the city of the tribes. As everyone said their goodbyes, next year’s rally committee were visible reminding us all about Bantry ’09, Mark the date folks its sure to be another great Macra weekend. Limerick Macra Na Feirme had a huge achievement at the Rally, with Michael Spellacy of Ballyneety winning the Under 23 National Beef Stockjudging Finals. Michael is a member of Croom Macra. This competition assists young farmers to become skilled at assessing livestock, thus preparing them for the actual job of buying and selling farm animals. Michael was thrilled with his success and said that his experience in working with cattle on a daily basis helped him make the right decisions on the day. Candidates had to complete a written assessment as well as the practical work of judging a selection of cattle. Mr. Spellacy will now take up a place on the Prize Winners Trip 2009.
