Croom,Limerick Macra News

Limerick Macra Na Feirme had a huge achievement last Friday evening at the National Conference in Galway, with Michael Spellacy of Ballyneety winning the Under 23 National Beef Stockjudging Finals. Michael is a member of Croom Macra. This competition assists young farmers to become skilled at assessing livestock, thus preparing them for the actual job of buying and selling farm animals. Michael was thrilled with his success and said that his experience in working with cattle on a daily basis helped him make the right decisions on the day. Candidates had to complete a written assessment as well as the practical work of judging a selection of cattle. Mr. Spellacy will now take up a place on the Prize Winners Trip 2009. Well done to everyone else who participated in competitions during the weekend. The members of the ‘Know Your Agriculture’ team were Pat O Neill, Peter Cussen, Daniel Cannon and Liam Cunningham, all from the Kilmallock Club. Congratulations to Marie Roche from Shannonside and Liam Mulcahy from Ballylanders who did Limerick proud in the ‘Best New Member’ Event.
