With the National Conference fast approaching, over 100 young members of Limerick Macra Na Feirme are preparing for an action packed weekend. This Friday night will see our handsome young quiz masters compete in the All Ireland ‘Know Your Agriculture’ Quiz. Good luck to the Kilmallock who narrowly defeated Ballylanders in the County round. The members of this team are Pat O Neill, Peter Cussen, Daniel Cannon and Liam Cunningham. Good luck lads. Competing on the same evening will be the Croom ‘Member of September’ Mike Spellacy of Ballneety. He takes part in the Beef Stock judging event. This competition assists young farmers to become skilled at assessing livestock, thus preparing them for the actual job of buying and selling farm animals. Mike is experienced in this area and with his quick decision making skills, no doubt he will do Limerick proud. An award for ‘Best New Macra Member’ is presented to an individual Macra member, who joined the organisation between March 1st, 2007 and February 29th, 2008, and who is deemed by his/her club to have made a significant contribution to the development of the club during his/her first year of membership. The very first of luck to two finalists from Limerick, Marie Roche from Shannonside and Liam Mulcahy from Ballylanders. Finally good luck to the Croom Gaelic Footballers who will compete in the All Ireland seven-a-side finals on Sunday morning.

There was a public speaking and debating work shop last Thursday night in the Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown . There will be another workshop in Bunratty on 6th November  and with the upcoming County Public Speaking Finals approaching, all members, new and experienced are encouraged to attend.
