Ballynanty Rovers v Croom United

Well it makes a good headline ,but this Limerick District League Division 1A match was played in the L.I.T (Limerick Institute of Technology) Grounds beneath the shadow of the World Famous  Home of Munster Rugby ,Thomond Park.Ballynanty Rovers were the fancied team in this fixture ,this was also their second team squad, their first team squad plays in the Limerick Premier League. The First half was dominated by the home side naturally with Croom slowly coming to grips with the game as it approached half time.It was nil all at half time.
Croom looked dangerous early on in the second half with some good one two’s and neat interplay but the Balla (as they are known locally )defence held firm with some resolute defending and looked extremely dangerous on the counter attack.Croom’s Stevie Cahill on the wing was a constant threat to the home side almost Ronaldo style taking on defenders twisting and turning them.It was a counter attack that led to the first goal after 20 mins when Ballynanty with some neat interplay caught the Croom defence napping to score the games opening goal ,an excellent finish low to the right hand corner of Billy Shearin’s goal.Billy Shearin can be thanked for some excellent saves after that as Balla exerted their superiority on the game. Then it all changed as a long ball out of defence led to Cahill turning defenders every way to release a delicate pass to George Daffy who dispached it clinically to the Ballynanty net one all, the away supporters went wild…
It's one all as Daffy finds the net

It's one all as Daffy nets

From there on the tackles went flying in as both sides went for it in the pursuit of the league points, yellow cards were brandished for moments of indisclipine ;all part of the game as i know having played it.Croom seem to have been woken up with the goal and it was a breakaway again where Daffy received the ball and weaved his way through the Balla defence  to be stopped by defenders ,then the goalie ….but the ball’s momentum kept going towards the empty net ,Daffy threw himself to head on the ground…the ref blew …penalty croom with minutes remaining.Daffy recovered to take and score the penalty which led to Croom’s victory.

2 -1 as Daffy's scores from the Penalty Spot

2 -1 as Daffy scores
