The Macra na Feirme Dairy Stockjudging /News

The Macra na Feirme Dairy Stockjudging competition kindly sponsored by the Irish Dairy Board, will be held in Clongowes College, co. Kildare on the 26th of June. The purpose of this competition is to help young farmers to become skilled at assessing livestock, thus preparing them for the actual job of buying and selling farm animals. It also encourages decision making and stockjudging broadens the young farmers’ knowledge of new developments in stockbreeding, husbandry and disease control. Last years winners were in the Under 23 category Paul Ging, Portlaoise, Co Laois and in the senior category Anne Marie Ging, Portlaoise, Co Laois.

A Nationwide Search has begun to seek out Twelve Farmers who will compete head-to-head for a chance of winning an outstanding prize A LAND ROVER DISCOVERY worth over 40,000Euro

TG4 has commissioned Good Company Productions to produce a new 8 part Television Series Feirm Factor to be filmed over a number of weekends in Autumn 2008 and broadcast in Spring 2009.

They are looking for twelve Farmers, aged 18 – 60, male and female, who will show-case the best of Irish farming today. The contestants will be put through a series of farming related tasks and wider-world challenges and the Winner will drive away in a LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TDV6 COMMERCIAL

Macra are running a number of regional young farmer program briefing meetings in the following venues. The Meetings will run from 8.30pm to 10.30pm. The date set for the Limerick meeting is 24th June in the Clarion Hotel Limerick City.
