This is the latest Photo of the New Thomond Park ,home to Munster Rugby taken from the rooftop of the  Hilton Hotel .The project is very much on target to host the upcoming Magners League Match with Glasgow Warriors on the fourth of October as per Pat Whealan Chairman of the Thomond Park Redevelopment Committee .There is also a distict possibility from my colleagues in UlBohs that the Limerick Charity Cup Final may take place there and what a great occasion that could prove to be which would draw a large attendance ,the Limerick Charity Cup  is played so that local charities benefit.Bruff were winners in 2007 http://croom.wordpress.com/2008/03/03/rugbybruff-rugby-club/

Adare ,Tour De Munster

Posted by croom on August 26, 2008

Adare,Tour De Munster 2008

Adare,Tour De Munster 2008

The Tour De Munster Completed their 600 Km Charity Cycle through all the counties of Munster. This is the fifth year of this very unique event where all the participants cover their own costs ,the funds this year will go to Enable Ireland.See more on their website http://tourdemunster.com/

I met the Cyclist’s in Cruise Street in Limerick stopping on the second leg of their Cycle, the first person i met was Gerry Muray from Patrickswell .They had stayed overnight in Killaloe and the crack was good as it is every year.He said it was an event he looked forward to every year then Cycling has been Gerry’s passion throughout his life so far.As chairman of the Tour De Munster he was thrilled with the response they have received since the event commenced.Last year they raised 100,000 for Cystic Fibrosis ,this year Enable Ireland has been chosen. The Tour commenced in Cork with legendary Cyclist Sean Kelly  from Tour De France at the helm,4 Days of Cycling through the picturesques region of Munster to finally finish back in Cork.It was an interesting morning chatting with the remaining cyclist ,superb athletes all of them and great credit to all of them for taking time out from their professions .It is good to see that our society is not made up totally as we say “Me Feiners”.(Translation :P eople who love them selves so much and never give anything back to society)They were all hoping that the inclement weather we were having would not ruin their marathon cycle,as i left them outside Rathkeale drops appeared on the windscreen though.

Adults Swim Programme

Posted by croom on August 26, 2008

From my Sportsability Forum and meeting with many of the organisations there is a big request for an adult swim programme. As there are only a few swimming pools in Limerick that are totally accessible and a very limited number of specially qualified swim instructors for many swimming has been inaccessible.

Hopefully this swim programme will address this need. The swimming programme will take part in Bawnmore Swimming Pool which is totally accessible and pool temperature is higher than that of public swimming pools. A qualified disability swim instructor will run the programme which will take the form of 6/8 week block sessions. Like all swimming programme there will be a cost, to cover pool and instructor fees.

I would please encourage you to make those in your organisation (both staff and members)/families/carers/ aware of this swimming programme, also those who may wish to give of their time and volunteer.

Please do not hesitate in contacting me should you have any queries or need any more information.

We may not all  reach the level of Michael Phelps the new Olympic Swimming Champion with his eight gold medals ,but participation in sporting events is very important in life. The Adult Swim Programme is a worthwhile experience to try out.

FBD Young Farmer of the Year

Posted by croom on August 26, 2008

29 young farmers have made it through the county rounds of the FBD Young Farmer of the Year to represent their counties at the two day competition which will take place in the Newpark Hotel in County Kilkenny on the 1st and 2nd of September. This competition aims to reflect the progressive and innovative qualities of Ireland’s top young farmers and promote the range of viable diversification opportunities available for Irish agriculture in future years, these 29 farmers represent some of the best young farmers Ireland has to offer. It is important to highlight their efforts and achievements as farming offers a varied and challenging work environment and is a viable profession. It’s vital that we acknowledge the many highly educated young people that have embarked on a successful career in farming. Macra na Feirme have announced that former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will chair the final adjudication panel at the FBD 2008 Young Farmer of the Year Awards, which will take place in the Newpark Hotel, Castlecomer Road, Co. Kilkenny. The very popular young farmer Colm Quain of Colmanswell, Ballygran will represent Limerick. Colm is a very active member of the Shannonside club and is also the Young Farmer Officer on the County Macra Committee. Colm has made a big impact to Macra in Limerick since joining in the last year. He has helped Shannonside to much tag rugby success and loves all social events. Limerick Macra wishes Colm to very best of luck next Tuesday.
