The Tullamore Show one of Irelands biggest Agricultural events was cancelled over the weekend due to bad weather. The show was expected to attract over 50,000 visitors to the Co Offaly town. It is not clear at this stage whether the show will be rescheduled, but watch this space for details of the re-scheduled Macra na Feirme FBD Farmskills Competition. Six teams, from Clodagh, in North Tipperary, Clonakilty in Carbery, Callen in Kilkenny, Ballycoog in Wicklow, Kinnegad in Westmeath and Moynalty in Meath, will battle it out at the Tullamore show for the title of National Farmskills champions. The Tullamore Agricultural Show was to be held on August 10th. The aims of the competition are to help young farmers develop various farm skills and techniques, to demonstrate to the public the skills required in modern farming, and to create greater awareness of farm safety. Speaking before the event, Eddie O’Donnell chair of Macra na Feirme’s agricultural affairs committee points out the importance of the competition saying, Macra na Feirme are committed to the ongoing vocational development of our members and the FBD Farmskills Competition is a vital platform for helping young farmers become accomplished at various new farm skills and techniques. The competition also emphasises safety in the workplace, which is a very important issue for farmers, competitors will display proficiency and talent in every aspect of the competition, from tractor skills to fencing.
