The Oak,The Acorn and The Spider

The Spider

 Webs of Deceit!

This morning brought home the painful reality that Autumn is passing us by as the Summmer did which is well written about since the bad flooding in Newcastlewest to the floods in Dublin ,Mallow etc. dark ,dreary, misty …that damp smell is lingering around the house even in the car .The odd leaf is beginning to fall to the ground and the schools are back.Who ever coined the phrase “when they are back in school the weather will get better” it is not looking like it this year.

The Spiders were out in force this morning webs everywhere seen easily due to the damp misty conditions, the Oak is producing Acorns in abundance considering it is only 11 years old . Ireland’s National Tree the Oak .

INIS ARTISTS

Posted by croom on August 28, 2008

The Inis Artists were formed to promote visual art throughout Munster ,the artists are mainly based in Co.Clare .Tom Daly, Margaret Ray Lahinch, Tomás O‘Maoldomhnaigh Ennis, Alan Shoosmith,  Sonia Schorman, Gerardine O’Leary are some the artists in the soiciety.

More Details on their website http://www.inisartists.com/

See more of the Artists in the launch of the Art Exhibition in December 2007 at Watchhouse Cross Library.Limerick  by Brendan Kenny of the Limerick Regeneration Project.

This is what i wrote in December 2007….

This evening in the Library at Watch House Cross two local artists Margaret Ray and Tomas O ‘ Maoldomhnaigh launched an exhibition of their own work of original painting’s which depict scenes of Limerick City ,coastal scenes, sporting and people .
Tomas is originally from St.Mary’s Parish has been a professional artist for many years; he is a member of the Limerick Art Society which Margaret is its secretary.
The Exhibition was opened by Brendan Kennedy the chief executive of the Northside and Southside regeneration project, there was a very good attendance and there are 37 works which are available to buy throughout the week of the long exhibition which ends this Saturday Dec.10.
Watch House Cross Community Library which was opened recently is a very welcome addition to the area, and has been very successful since its introduction; one has to commend Limerick City Council as it is an impressive structure and user friendly within its surrounds. The Library should prove to be a very valuable asset to the community for many years to come.

Spot the Difference from the stables in Bruree of Enda Bolger. Cheltenham has been good to him winning 7 cross country meeting s there. John Thomas McNamara rode him 11 times out of his 14 wins, the Toureen jockey once stated that Spot the Difference had a big heart – the heart of a lion – and when he got to the front he loved going all the way to the line. There is a great painting here from Tomas O Maoldomhnaigh ( tomasartist at eircom dot net )showing Spot the Difference wearing the South Liberties GAA Club colours  for his owner  JP McManus.

Celtic and Manchester United Drawn in Champions League Group

Posted by croom on August 28, 2008

Seeing the number of Manchester United,Liverpool and Cetic shirts been worn around and during training sessions for Croom United naturally there was added local interest in this evening Champions League Draw. The Match of of the round for all suppporters in this country is the clash of Manchester United (Current European Champions) and Glasgow Cetic. These two teams  command a massive support here in Ireland with many people and clubs visiting the fooball grounds of Old Trafford and Celtic Park to see their favourite teams very often in a season. The Patrick Sarsfield Celtic Supporters Club will be very busy from here on making the arragements for the home and away ties.More information for the Limerick based Celtic Supporters can be found on their website http://www.patricksarsfieldcsc.com/home.html ,equally Denis O Sullivan founding member of the Limerick Branch of the Manchester United Supporters Club will be innudated for those precious tickets to visit both grounds. Both sides clashed in the group stages of the Champions League in 2006 with Manchester United winning 3- 2 at Old Trafford and Celtic winning 1 -0 at Celtic Park. Both Qualified from the group also back then.Tie of the Round.

The Draw in Full is :

Group A: Chelsea(England),Roma(Italy),Bordeaux(France ),Cluj(Romania )

One would have to fancy Chelsea and Roma here,Bordeaux for the Uefa Cup in Third,Cluj are unknown their first champions League.

Group B: Inter Milan(Italy) ,Werder Bremen (Germany),Pananithaikos(Greece),Famagusta(Cyprus)

Inter Milan to top the group with former Chelsea Boss Jose Mourinho at the helm ,Bremen second,For Famagusta from Cyprus(Manged by Keizaba who was with newcastle) it will be their first time in the Champions League ,Interesting clash with  Pananithaikos(Greece) due to the political history from the 60’s between both countries.

Group C; Barcelona,Sporting Lisbon(Portugal),Basel(Switzerland),Shaktar Donetsk(Ukraine).

Barcelona to top the group,Shaktar could surprise in this group.

Group D: Liverpool(England),PSV Einhoven(Holland),Marseilles((France),Athletico Madrid(Spain).

Liverpool one of the best supported in Ireland with Cetic /Man Utd should top the group ,allowing for the Liege blip.Athletico Madrid will be real threat to them .Marseilles will struggle due to losing Nasri(Arsenal )and Cisse (Sunderland).

Group E: Manchester United(England),Villareal (Spain),Cetic (Scotland),Aalborg(Denamark).

Man.United to top the group,it will be a close call between Celtic and Villareal for Second, the Danes will take points from both.

Group F: Lyon(France),Bayern Munich(Germany)Steau Bucharest(Romania),Fiorentina(Italy).

Bayern and Lyon to fight it out for 1 and 2.

Group G: Arsenal(England),Porto(Portugal),Fenerbache(Turkey),Dynamo Kiev(Ukraine).

Fenerbache will push Arsenal all the way for that first spot.St.Patricks Athletic should have beaten Kiev in the previous rounds in qualifying.

Group H: Real Madrid(Spain),Juventus(Italy),Zenit St .Ptersburg (Russia),Bate Borisov (Belarus).

Real to top the group of death,Juventus will push them all the way,Zenit (Arashvin if he stays!) are current UEFA Cup Champions,Bate will be used as cannon fodder ,it is their first champions League.

Adare ,Tour De Munster

Posted by croom on August 26, 2008

Adare,Tour De Munster 2008

Adare,Tour De Munster 2008

The Tour De Munster Completed their 600 Km Charity Cycle through all the counties of Munster. This is the fifth year of this very unique event where all the participants cover their own costs ,the funds this year will go to Enable Ireland.See more on their website http://tourdemunster.com/

I met the Cyclist’s in Cruise Street in Limerick stopping on the second leg of their Cycle, the first person i met was Gerry Muray from Patrickswell .They had stayed overnight in Killaloe and the crack was good as it is every year.He said it was an event he looked forward to every year then Cycling has been Gerry’s passion throughout his life so far.As chairman of the Tour De Munster he was thrilled with the response they have received since the event commenced.Last year they raised 100,000 for Cystic Fibrosis ,this year Enable Ireland has been chosen. The Tour commenced in Cork with legendary Cyclist Sean Kelly  from Tour De France at the helm,4 Days of Cycling through the picturesques region of Munster to finally finish back in Cork.It was an interesting morning chatting with the remaining cyclist ,superb athletes all of them and great credit to all of them for taking time out from their professions .It is good to see that our society is not made up totally as we say “Me Feiners”.(Translation :P eople who love them selves so much and never give anything back to society)They were all hoping that the inclement weather we were having would not ruin their marathon cycle,as i left them outside Rathkeale drops appeared on the windscreen though.
