Limerick Tunnel Public Open Day 26th July 2008

Posted by croom on July 22, 2008

The Limerick Tunnel Project/Bunlickly Lake  as seen from Blackberry Park.

There will be an Open day this weekend on Saturday 26th July where the general public can view  and see the tunnel  before it is immersed under the River Shannon.A feat of engineering well worth seeing. The Shannon Rugby Club in Coonagh is where the Guided Bus Tours tour will commence from at 10.00 am until 4.00 pm.95fm will be broadcasting from the venue on the day.More information available here on their website http://www.limericktunnel.com/openday.html

The Limerick tunnel when open will help alleviate traffic flow and remove up to 40,000 vehicles a day which currently have to pass through Limerick City Centre and create gridlock and frustration for many commuters. It will also help cut Co2 emissions within the environs of the City with this reduced traffic conjestion. The Limerick tunnel will also act a gateway for easy access to the West of Ireland to Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Donegal for those venturing North from the Southern part of the country from Cork and Kerry .Part of the NDP for an Atlantic Corridor in the West Of Ireland and long overdue and very welcome for all of us.
