National Talent Final Macra
Posted by croom on May 7, 2008
Twenty one Macra branches from twelve counties took to the stage of Limerick’s University Concert Hall last Sunday night in the National Talent Final. The Final returned to the Treaty County venue for the first time since 1994, the only other occasion the Final was staged outside Dublin. The National Talent Final is one of the showpiece occasions in Macra and a fantastic night’s entertainment. Representing Limerick in the final were the Ballylanders Club and Shannonside Club in the disco dancing and set dancing categories respectively. Both these groups performed tremendously on the night and are to be congratulated for their dedication and hard work over the last few months. It was both groups first appearance in a National Final. Athboy, Co Meath won the disco dancing section following a runners-up spot last year and Kincora, Co. Clare beat off stiff competition to claim the set dancing title. The Macra National Talent Competition is in its 24th year and Limerick is one of seven counties to have reached the Final in all eight events. The Ballybrown Club have reached the final in all eight events and also share the record of appearing in five different events in a Final (1993) with Athboy (2002) and Termonfeckin (2003 and 2007). Limerick have a strong tradition in this competition and long may it continue.
