Limerick Camogie ,All Ireland Gala Winners 2007.

In a special presentation to honour the Limerick Camogie Team of 2007 Councillor Kevin Sheehan which was held at County Hall in Dooradoyle. He made the following reference to the team.

“I congratulate Aoife Sheehan as captain, the team, panel, trainers, coaches, selectors and back room staff because I know that the winning of an All Ireland title is not done on the day of battle. The extensive training and many hours of planning that is required by the players and their mentors to win an All Ireland title begins months beforehand and often goes unrecognised”

Croom Teacher Receives Man Of The Match for Ireland

Posted by croom on November 28, 2007

Croom Teacher Receives Man Of The Match for Ireland .

Ireland defeated Scotland in the AIB Club International in a very entertaining match played at Donnybrook last Friday Night ,John Ed O Connor who is teaching in Colaiste Chiarain was voted Man of the Match and he had  a tremendous game, Quote of the night as regards John Ed’s play was “He is one hell of a tough Nut “ in a complimentary fashion from a commentator..Let’s hope it will be the first of many more caps to come for John Ed. Ireland were not fancied to do well against a Scotland team  who have already two games played and one was a trouncing of Wales, they also had fringe/Academy players playing who were verging on the Scotland Senior Squad .Ireland draw from players in the Aib League.

The Curtains will be raised at Manister community centre on this Friday evening when the drama group will present their three night’s show (“Don’t tell the wife”) .The cast have been busy rehearsing their lines for this great production so hopefully that the husbands and the wives of the district will not keep this great drama showing a secret in the staging of the three nights of fun and laughter.

Croom Utd win in a thriller over Shelbourne

Posted by croom on November 25, 2007

Daffy the Hat trick Hero for the Maiguesiders.

Pip Moloney ,Croom in action v Shelbourne.

This morning’s Limerick’s Junior Division 1B top of the table clash between Shelbourne and Croom United turned out to be a thriller, with the Maiguesiders scoring a dramatic last minute goal to seal the points for Croom.

Shelbourne were first to take the lead on the half hour ,Croom equalised with a neat penalty taken by George Daffy tucked away to the left corner of Shel’s goalie Robert Mulqueen. It was one all at the interval,Shelbourne finishing the half. stronger of the two sides.

Croom struck early in the second half with Daffy striking again for Croom.Throughout the tie Pip Moloney had an outstanding game for Croom up front but had to leave with an injury to his arm  with 10 mins. left ,his loss became apparent.Shelbourne stamped their authority on the game and deservingly equalised with minutes remaining ,relentless pressure almost paid dividends but goaline clearance’s saved Croom ,their defence held firm with a combination of  wonderful goalkeeping from  Billy Shearan, a  well worked passing movement  out of defence led  to a counter attack with Daffy striking again and his personal hat trick ,sealing the points for Croom .                                                         Delirious scenes followed with the Croom supporters jumping for joy on the sidelines as the time was up, no way back for Shelbourne as the referee blew for the final whistle.

Croom on the evidence of this performance considering that they were missing several players on the day must now really fancy their chances of promotion to the top division.
